COFCO NHRI is COFCO’s core R&D platform. Guided by national priorities and industrial development trends, it leverages scientific and technological innovation to foster new growth drivers in improving quality and efficiency, developing new products, and making development plans for strategic emerging and future industries.

Driven by the mission of “rooted in life sciences, dedicated to nutrition and health, empowering the industrial chain, and developing quality products” and the vision of “surpassing customer expectations through innovation, leading a Healthy China through science and technology,” the Institute is shaping a “one body, two wings” new development paradigm. This paradigm features high-caliber scientists and high-level laboratories as the main focus, supported by the commercialization of scientific research outcomes and technical services, as well as the market-oriented development of testing services. Focusing on categories such as grains, oils, sugar, alcoholic beverages, meat, and tea, the Institute provides one-stop technical R&D, product development services, and customer solutions. Targeting national nutritional needs and metabolic mechanisms, it offers technical support and services in omics research on functional nutritional factors, in vitro digestion simulation, and efficacy evaluation. For grain, oil, and food brand businesses, it delivers professional industry trend insights and consumer sensory evaluation services. With national-level food inspection and testing qualifications, the Institute also provides comprehensive technical services, including food safety consulting, auditing, and certification, offering customers overall solutions for food quality and safety.
Over the years, the Institute has been awarded one China Patent Gold Award, two State Scientific and Technological Progress Awards, and over 200 provincial and ministerial-level awards. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, it has led or participated in eight national key R&D programs. Currently possessing 13 national-level platforms and 15 provincial and ministerial-level platforms, it plays a key role in carrying out the national science and technology strategy for the grain, oil, and food sectors.
